SUNDAY REHEARSAL
Sunday rehearsal is a weekly rehearsal, held on Sundays, for the entire troupe.
This is the best time for cast and team members from all of KCST’s productions to get together and enjoy the fun of theatre. Sunday rehearsal always begins with bagels and orange juice, free to the troupe on the first rehearsal of each semester, and a round of WHOOSH to get the energy flowing.
Various members of the Executive Board run exercises and games for the rehearsal. It is not unusual for specific board members to become known for specific warm-ups, which get passed along to new board members as people graduate.
Sunday rehearsal warm-ups capture weekly the spirit of KCST’s pre-show warm-ups.
senior picnic
KCST’s second end-of-year tradition celebrates the seniors graduating from the school and the troupe. Senior Picnic is a potluck traditionally held in Riverside Park but has sought more creative locations, like Altschul Atrium, when the weather disagrees with the occasion.
At the picnic, each senior receives a speech from a younger troupe member and a flower as a way to thank each member for their time in KCST. This is often the final KCST event of the school year and the last opportunity for the entire troupe to spend time with the graduating seniors.
shakespeare’s birthday
For many people—in the King’s Crown Shakespeare Troupe and across the globe—April 23 holds special significance as the day Shakespeare died and the day that we celebrate his birth.
KCST takes care to celebrate annually, perhaps through a lovely picnic in Riverside park, where we, as the kids might say, “cut one [a pineapple] up” for the bard or through an all-day screening, coloring, and cupcakes in Lerner Hall. Regardless of how we choose to celebrate, KCST annually looks forward to a day where we celebrate one of the namesakes of our troupe.
