Thank you for deciding to propose to KCST! We cannot wait to hear your pitch.
KCST’s proposal guidelines are unique in its openness to the entire Troupe. When you propose, you will send a packet to the Advisory Board Chair, a member of the KCST Executive Board whose job is to facilitate the proposal process. The A-Board Chair then leads a session of A-Board which is open to all members of the Troupe who have participated in one Main Stage show or two special projects (i.e. Shakescenes, Egg & Peacock, etc.).
At A-Board each proposal team has the opportunity to present their vision and answer questions. After that, the A-Board deliberates until the team is chosen. The record for the longest A-Board deliberation is five hours and forty-five minutes but they are often less than two hours. The teams are then contacted before anyone leaves the room.
The purpose of A-Board is to open up the process of choosing the show to the entire Troupe, giving us the unique opportunity to allow for shows that truly represent the ideals of our whole community.
Fall Shows
Historically, there are two shows chosen for the fall shows slot (one for the Glicker-Milstein and one for the Lerner Black Box). While the show must be related to pre-modern material; adaptational, non-Shakespeare, and original works are encouraged.
As these shows are smaller than the Spring Show, teams are encouraged to be as small as possible to allow for the most amount of positions to be filled through interviews in the Fall.

Spring Show
In the Spring, KCST puts up a roaming, outdoor show. These shows demand a higher level of organization and preparation and are therefore typically given to a more experienced production team, particularly one that has experience with a previous Spring Show. We also encourage a larger team than Fall Show, but again stress the importance of allowing for vital positions to be available for interviews.
The show itself must be Shakespeare and cannot be produced in the last five years.
